Summer is here. And if your family is anything like most, that means road trips, beach days, and a few “are we there yet?” moments somewhere in between.

We have an idea that might help.

Meet Kodi On The Go: a free, printable summer activity that puts your child’s favorite Khan Academy Kids character right in their hands. Print Kodi. Color her in. Cut her out. Then take her everywhere.

Young child shows off his Kodi on the Go creation

What Is Kodi On The Go?

You may already know Kodi Bear as the friendly guide inside the Khan Academy Kids app, the one who cheers your child on through reading, math, and more. This summer, Kodi is stepping outside.

Inspired by the classic Flat Stanley tradition, Kodi On The Go invites kids to bring a paper version of Kodi along on real-life adventures and document the journey. It’s the kind of simple, screen-free fun that fits in a tote bag, a carry-on, or a back pocket.

How It Works

  • Step 1: Download and print your Kodi. Download the free Kodi On The Go printable here. No app required, no sign-up needed. Just hit print.
  • Step 2: Color her in. Grab the crayons and let your child make Kodi their own. His classic look is blue, but this is their Kodi. Purple Kodi? Go for it.
  • Step 3: Cut her out. A grown-up can help with scissors. For a sturdier Kodi that can survive a full summer of adventures, glue her onto a piece of cardboard or an old file folder before cutting. It takes an extra minute and makes a big difference on the road.
  • Step 4: Take Kodi everywhere. Road trip to grandma’s? Kodi gets the best seat in the car. Afternoon at the beach? Kodi’s in the sand. Hiking a trail, visiting a farmer’s market, flying across the country: Kodi is there for all of it.
  • Step 5: Share your adventures. Snap a photo of Kodi on your summer travels and share it using #KodiOnTheGo. We’d love to see where she ends up.

Simple Fun That Goes Anywhere

There’s something magic about a simple prop that sparks big imagination. When kids have a tangible companion (even a paper one) ordinary moments become stories worth telling.

Kodi On The Go works because:

  • It’s free. No purchase, no subscription, no supplies beyond a printer and crayons.
  • It’s screen-free. A welcome balance to digital summer routines.
  • It travels. Paper Kodi weighs nothing and fits anywhere, making it perfect for long travel days.
  • It builds storytelling skills. “Where did Kodi go today?” is a simple prompt that gets kids narrating, sequencing, and creating.
  • It connects to something they love. For kids who use the Khan Academy Kids app, Kodi is already a trusted, familiar face.

Adventure Ideas to Get You Started

Not sure where to take Kodi first? Here are a few ideas:

  • Road trip: Kodi looks out the window at every state line, rest stop, and roadside attraction
  • Beach or pool: Kodi makes a sandcastle (or watches carefully from a safe dry spot)
  • Hiking trail: Kodi explores the great outdoors
  • Airplane: Kodi gets a window seat
  • Backyard: Sometimes the best adventures are right outside the door
  • Library, museum, or farmer’s market: Kodi is learning too

A Note for Parents

Khan Academy Kids is a free app for children ages 2–8, built by a nonprofit on a simple belief: every child deserves access to a great education, no matter where they live or what their family can afford.

Kodi On The Go is a small extension of that belief: learning and joy belong everywhere, including summer. We hope Kodi keeps your child curious, creative, and maybe a little more patient on the long drive to the beach.

Download your free Kodi printable here and tag us in your adventures with #KodiOnTheGo. We can’t wait to see where she goes.
